‘We have ambition’ – Lopetegui expects tough match against United at Old Trafford

Manchester United host Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday in a 3pm kick-off at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will be keen to return to their home comforts after back-to-back defeats on the road.

Meanwhile, Wolves are on the back of an emphatic Midlands derby win against Aston Villa, which secured their safety in the division with three fixtures remaining.

There have been some remarkable campaigns from managers this season and Julen Lopetegui’s is certainly not one to be overlooked; Wolves sat rock bottom of the table when the Spaniard took over last November and now sit in 13th place, level on points with Crystal Palace in 11th and just two points behind Chelsea.

Lopetegui on United

Whilst they’re no longer fighting for survival, the manager wants to see a spirited performance from his squad in M16 this weekend, though he’s expecting a difficult clash.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Lopetegui said (via the Man Utd website): “I think that they are [a] very good team. A top team with top players, a good coach, with a very clear idea [of] the way to play. They are fighting in a very good position to be in the next Champions League.

“In the Premier League, this is a very difficult achievement, that’s why they are a very top team. Above all, they play at Old Trafford. We are aware the kind of match we are going to have. We have to be ready to compete with them.

“We have closed our achievement but we have ambition to go there to play well and compete with them. If not, you’ve lost. If you’re not ready to compete, they’re going to roll over you.”

United are still on their quest to secure a top-four finish, so the three points are absolutely crucial for Erik ten Hag’s men.
