(Video) Ten Hag reiterates his stance on De Gea’s contract extension after Irons howler

Erik ten Hag remains adamant about extending David de Gea’s contract and keeping him at the club as his No.1.

The manager reiterated his stance following De Gea’s goalkeeping howler during Manchester United’s away clash with West Ham United this evening.

De Gea failed to get a firm hand to Said Benrahma’s first-half strike, with the ball trickling straight past him and into the back of the net. United subsequently lost the game 1-0 and now see significant pressure added to their remaining fixtures if the club want to secure a Champions League spot.

With this being yet another error added to the Spaniard’s catalogue, fans have voiced concerns regarding whether or not he should be the first choice between the sticks moving forwards.

Ten Hag backs De Gea

However, he continues to have the manager’s full backing, as Ten Hag said post-match: “Yes [De Gea has my complete trust]. The most clean sheets in the Premier League, so we would not be here in this position without him, that is fully my belief. No concerns. That happens [mistakes] but I think as a team, you have to deal with it, you have to show character, be resilient and bounce back – something that this team will do.

We want him to stay and we want him to extend his contract.”
