Kaoru Mitoma confirms Brighton will use FA Cup exit as motivation to overturn United

Kaoru Mitoma has insisted that Brighton and Hove Albion will be out for “revenge” when they take on Manchester United this evening.

A win for the Seagulls would see them leapfrog Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur into sixth place, whereas three points for United would significantly strengthen their grip on a top-four finish.

The reverse league fixture ended 2-1 in Brighton’s favour on the opening day of the 2022/2023 campaign at Old Trafford, marking the first game of Erik ten Hag’s tenure – something he’ll certainly have in the back of his mind when he takes to the touchline tonight.

However, the sides have met more recently; a fortnight ago, United knocked the Seagulls out of the FA Cup to book their place in the final. Seemingly, the defeat is still prominent in the minds of Roberto De Zerbi and his players, and they’ll be using it as a driving force to try and see out a win at the Amex.

Mitoma says Seagulls seek revenge

Speaking via Football Daily, prolific winger Mitoma said: “Indeed, none of us have forgotten that loss, so we would like to get our revenge against them in the league. But this game will be different to the cup tie, so we will adapt to the circumstances and play from there.”
