Brighton set to be without Roberto De Zerbi when hosting Manchester United

Brighton and Hove Albion could be without Roberto De Zerbi when they host Manchester United at the Amex this Thursday, May 4.

The Italian manager was forced to cancel his scheduled press conference today due to illness and instead stayed home to recover.

De Zerbi’s assistant and housemate Andrea Maldera will oversee the Seagulls’ final training sessions ahead of the Premier League outing and the pair will also take to the touchline if he remains too ill, according to Mail Sport.

It wouldn’t be the first time this season that the Brighton players have been without their boss, as De Zerbi’s antics have seen him previously receive two touchline bans.

They were not overly affected by his absence, though, as in both matches he missed, Brighton won by four-goal and five-goal advantages against West Ham United and Grimsby Town respectively.

The teams’ last meetings

United last took on the Seagulls in the FA Cup semi-final a fortnight ago, in which the Red Devils advanced victorious following a penalty shootout success.

The reverse league match did not go in the Reds’ favour though; on the opening day of the 2022/2023 campaign, Brighton picked up a 2-1 win at Old Trafford under then-manager Graham Potter.
