Match preview: Manchester United head to the South Coast to take on rampant Seagulls at the Amex

Manchester United will make the trip to the South Coast this week to take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex on Thursday, May 4. Kick-off is at 8pm.

The Red Devils are on the back of a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Aston Villa, with the three points significantly strengthening United’s grip on a top-four finish.

Prior to that, they saw out a 2-2 draw away to Tottenham Hotspur after taking an early two-goal lead, so a better performance away from home is needed this week, as the team often struggles when not on home turf.

How Brighton fare ahead of the game

On the other hand, in Brighton’s last outing, they netted a whopping six goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Amex. Roberto De Zerbi opted to drop Robert Sanchez, Levi Colwill, Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma and Alexis Mac Allister to the bench, with supporters believing he was keeping his top performers well-rested before taking on United.

The reverse fixture at Old Trafford ended 2-1 in the Seagulls’ favour on the opening day of the 2022/2023 campaign back in August, so the away clash provides a chance for redemption.

However, the sides have met since then with the Reds coming out on top; last week, Erik ten Hag’s side booked their place in the FA Cup final after defeating Brighton on penalties. The semi-final saw 120 minutes worth of action end goalless, so you could expect a tightly contested game when the players take to the pitch on Thursday.

Brighton currently sit eighth-placed and have their sights firmly set on securing European football for next season.
