No Fernandes, Maguire to start: Predicted Manchester United line-up to take on Tottenham Hotspur

Our predicted Manchester United line-up to take on Tottenham Hotspur in North London this Thursday at 8.15pm.

The Red Devils will be looking to extend a three-game streak of wins and clean sheets in their return to Premier League action after booking a spot in the FA Cup final last weekend.

On the other hand, bouncing back for Spurs is absolutely crucial after their dismal display on Tyneside last Sunday; they lost 6-1 to Newcastle United with five goals coming in the opening 21 minutes. Interim manager Cristian Stellini was subsequently relieved of his duties and former player Ryan Mason has taken the reins until a permanent successor is sought.

Predicted United line-up

De Gea;

Wan-Bissaka, Maguire (C), Lindelof, Shaw,

There’s a chance Erik ten Hag may opt to leave the backline unchanged from Sunday’s team to face Brighton and Hove Albion, in which Luke Shaw partnered Victor Lindelof due to Harry Maguire’s Cup suspension.

However, the tie did end in a stalemate with United lacking considerable threat in the attack. If Shaw returns to his usual position on the left flank, he’s renowned for his ability to move upfield and create chances from his crosses or long-range passes.

Casemiro, Eriksen, Sabitzer

Bruno Fernandes is currently a doubt, which comes as a huge concern for Ten Hag and supporters, as the team is notably different in his absence. The last game he missed was last week’s Europa League clash with Sevilla, which he was ruled out of due to suspension, and United lost 3-0 on the night after an abysmal showing in Spain.

It also raises the question of whether or not Ten Hag would take a chance on starting him even if he does pass all fitness tests. He simply cannot risk Fernandes’ issue worsening and keeping him out for an extended spell.

Luckily, Christian Eriksen can be deployed in Fernandes’ absence. The Dane is well acquainted with his former side, Spurs, and is experienced and creative enough to hold down the more attacking role.

Antony, Martial, Rashford

Provided the trio are fit, this is our strongest front three at the moment.
