Wout Weghorst welcomes Besiktas interest as return to Turkey becomes possibility

Make no mistake about it. Wout Weghorst was signed in January as a stop-gap option. The Glazers ran out of money, Erik ten Hag was forced to get a striker in on loan and he knew the Dutchman would have a positive impact at least.

I know Weghorst hasn’t lit up the world during his time at United, but he was never an elite-level forward. Otherwise, Burnley wouldn’t be loaning him out to Turkey.

Weghorst also replaced Cristiano Ronaldo, who, let’s face it, offered absolutely nothing to the team in the first half of the season.

Few can deny Weghorst the effort he has put in, but we are not getting ahead of ourselves and shouting from the roof-tops that he should be kept beyond his current loan deal.

There is an expectation that Weghorst will leave United in the summer and return to Burnley. That’s where a decision will be made by Vincent Kompany ahead of their return to the Premier League.

However, if Kompany doesn’t want Weghorst, Spor Arena in Turkey claim a club could welcome him, as relayed by Sabah (H/t Sport Witness).

The outlet state that Besiktas are thinking about signing Weghorst on a permanent deal. It is reported that Weghorst has told the Super Lig giants: ‘I can return if we agree on the terms’ and action will be taken once manager Senile Gunes gives his approval.

Let us know if you would keep Weghorst beyond this season. Better option than Martial in a squad starved of strikers.
