Erik ten Hag provides update on whether Christian Eriksen will be fit to feature against Everton

Erik ten Hag was quizzed on Christian Eriksen’s recovery following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Brentford last night.

The Dane has been sidelined since January 28 when the Reds saw out a 3-1 FA Cup victory over Championship side Reading.

Andy Carroll’s reckless challenges eventually saw him brandished a red card, but he did leave Eriksen with a nasty ankle injury. Initially, it was expected that the midfielder would return by the end of April/early May, however, his fast rehabilitation could see him back in action this weekend.

United host Everton this Saturday, April 8 in the early kick-off at Old Trafford. The Toffees sit 16th-placed in the table and have found themselves in another fight for survival after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

The board relieved Frank Lampard of his managerial duties in January and decided Sean Dyche was the man to keep them in the top division. He has since picked up a win against top-of-the-table Arsenal and has drawn to the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Saturday will be anything but an easy game.

Ten Hag on Eriksen

The addition of Eriksen would grant United a huge boost though, as the stability and creativity he brings to the midfield have been sorely missed in his absence.

Last night, when questioned on the 31-year-old’s return, Ten Hag replied (via the Man Utd website): “We will see. We see it from day to day. He is progressing. He is now back only this week in team training tomorrow [Thursday] and the day after tomorrow [Friday]. We have two sessions. After that, we will decide if he is back in the squad again.”
