Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has rubbished Erik ten Hag’s claims that the Magpies waste a lot of time.

The Manchester United has stated on multiple occasions that Newcastle try to frustrate their opponents by wasting time.

The Manchester United manager has stated on multiple occasions that Newcastle try to frustrate their opponents by wasting time.

Ten Hag said (via Daily Mail): “We know they delay, yeah. It’s something that is what the referees don’t want, they want to have tempo in the game. That is the aim of the Premier League to have tempo in the game. So they (referees) also have to be consistent to let the game go. Do and act what the policy is.”

However, goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson saw Howe’s team win 2-0 and leap-frog United in the league table.

Speaking after Sunday’s 2-0 win over United, Newcastle striker Isak said (via The Shields Gazette): “I don’t really agree with that. We worked with intensity and we were the team that wanted to win.

“We were the team that wanted to bring the game forward. They wasted more time than us. I don’t put too much focus on that. I think we put in a great performance.”

Ten Hag and Howe got into a heated exchange on the sideline during the second half when Newcastle got up to their old tricks of time-wasting.

Howe also had his say after the final whistle (via The Sun): “We play a quick game. I don’t know where this time-wasting nonsense has come from because it’s not us and you saw today we wanted the ball back in play as quickly as possible, high energy, high tempo, ball in play.

“I’ll always stand up for my team, I’ll always stand up for what I believe is right.”

Howe doesn’t stand up against human rights abuse, though. He doesn’t like questions about Newcastle being a state-owned football club.
