Preview: Manchester United vs West Ham – FA Cup fifth round

Manchester United will be looking to book a place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup when they take on West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Reds go into the match on the back of a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the League Cup final on Sunday whilst the Hammers ran out 4-0 winners over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend.

Erik ten Hag is widely expected to make changes to his starting eleven to face West Ham with Tom Heaton, Marcel Sabitzer and Alejandro Garnacho all likely to feature.

Having finally ended our six year wait for a trophy it goes without saying it was fantastic to see the Reds lift the League Cup on Sunday. United hadn’t won silverware since winning the Europa League under Jose Mourinho back in 2017 but by winning the League Cup it has finally ended the drought and in doing so will hopefully act as the kick start needed to get the Reds back winning trophies consistently again and in facing West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday it provides Ten Hag with another opportunity to take the Reds another step closer to Wembley once again.

The Hammers have endured a disappointing season thus far under head coach David Moyes and currently find themselves loitering just above the relegation zone in 16th place. Having finished in the Europa League places over the previous two years West Ham have drastically under preformed so far this season and although the visitors form has picked up slightly over the past few weeks or so you would still expecting nothing less than a comfortable Reds victory on Wednesday night.

The FA Cup has almost taken a back seat over the past decade or so but it still remains and rightly so the most famous knockout competition in the world. Having already got one trophy under our belt Ten Hag will be desperate to win another and truth be told the FA Cup stands as arguably the clubs best chance of winning another trophy this season so you can bet that the Dutchman will be taking this game seriously.

It wont be easy and West Ham will look to make life difficult for United but despite that this is still a game I expect us to win albeit it may be closer than some think.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 West Ham
