Raphael Varane set to announce retirement from international football

Bad news for France as it looks like Raphael Varane is set to retire from international football.

After more than a decade with the French national team and winning the World Cup in 2018, Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will reportedly retire from international football, as per Le Parisen.

It is no secret that the 29-year-old has faced physical and mental wear and wear in recent years, so this will be seen as good news for United because he clearly wants to focus on his club career as well as spend more time with his family.

This will come as a blow for France manager Didier Deschamps, although we are sure Ten Hag will be happy about the decision – once it is confirmed by Varane himself.

Despite his injuries, Varane was included in the France squad for the 2022 World Cup and played a crucial role as they reached the final. I remember watching each of their games at the edge of my seat whenever Varane made a tackle.

Thankfully, Varane returned from the World Cup without any knocks and has returned to the United XI alongside Lisandro Martinez. He’s also been partnered by Luke Shaw at centre-back in recent weeks.

Varane will be setting his objective to start winning trophies at United this season after reaching the Carabao Cup final.
