Manchester United likely to oversee two departures by deadline day

Manchester United could reportedly oversee the departures of two players by the transfer deadline on February 1.

According to ESPN, Anthony Elanga will complete a loan move to one of the 10 clubs interested in him. His preference is to make the switch to Borussia Dortmund, where he could play a key role in the club’s top-four race and Champions League journey.

Elanga’s game time has been limited this season due to the arrival of Antony and the breakthrough of 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho. The Sweden international has made 20 appearances in all competitions, seven as a starter and 13 as a substitute. He has registered just two assists in that time.

The 20-year-old has not yet completed a loan spell and instead has progressed directly from the academy to the senior setup, so he will benefit from a run of action somewhere like Dortmund, who are renowned for their ability to prioritise and develop younger players.

Axel Tuanzebe to exit

The report also suggests that Axel Tuanzebe could be “moved on for a fee” before Wednesday. The 25-year-old is a Carrington graduate who has failed to cement a place in the first team as a senior player due to ongoing fitness and injury concerns.

Tuanzebe has been on four separate loan spells but has not made enough appearances to show his abilities and warrant a long-term future at Old Trafford.
