Erik ten Hag drops hint over Phil Jones’ uncertain future

It will mark the end of an era when Phil Jones leaves Manchester United.

The era dates back to the days of Sir Alex Ferguson standing on the touchline. This is a player who has survived six managers, one interim and the departures of many team-mates.

United will welcome offers for Jones this month, I don’t think they ever hid the fact he is available, but it’s a tricky task to sell a player that is never available.

Jones’ contract expires at the end of the season, so Ten Hag was asked whether there has already been a decision that he will be released at the end of the campaign.

“There has not been a decision take about that, for the summer,” Ten Hag told reporters, as quoted by ManUtd.com. “The whole season he has been injured.”

Ten Hag had to answer a follow up question on whether Jones has any chance of playing again this season.

The manager added: “I can’t say. What I can say is he is not available for training and hasn’t been since the first day of training this season. Then, the opportunity that you recover quickly also goes.”

It is sad to see how Jones’ career has turned out, but he’s ultimately picked up a wage at United – for several years – despite playing little to no football. That is down to Ed Woodward’s bizarre contract policy, so it’s unfair to slate Jones for what seems like daylight robbery.

Let us know in the comments section if you think Jones will sign for a new club in the summer.
