Facundo Pellistri was made to wait for his senior Manchester United debut, with his late cameo against Charlton Athletic earlier this week marking his first appearance for the club.
The Uruguay international joined the club in 2020 but spent two seasons on loan at La Liga club Alaves before returning to Old Trafford in 2022.
Pellistri had his pre-season under Erik ten Hag disrupted due to injury and despite speculation over his future, he ended up staying beyond the summer transfer window.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that Championship club Watford were keen on taking the youngster on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Now, after the exciting attacker impressed supporters in his brief debut, United have reportedly scheduled a meeting with Pellistri’s agents to discuss the future.
That’s according to The Athletic, who say that Old Trafford officials will meet with his representatives to discuss a possible loan move.
Watford’s interest is backed up in this story but it’s claimed that Pellistri is not sold on a move to the Championship, having spent two years in Spain’s top division. Furthermore, in addition to Watford’s interest, La Liga club Valencia are said to be weighing up a move.
It’s claimed that United are still undecided but that the meeting with Pellistri’s entourage will help, with the player seeking more playing time.
SN’s verdict…
It’s an understatement to say that Pellistri has been patient since he joined the club but his cameos, mostly in friendlies, have been very promising. His status in the Uruguayan national team also speaks volumes considering he has very little experience at senior level.
Erik ten Hag praised Pellistri after the 3-0 win over Charlton on Tuesday and hopefully, a resolution can be found in January and he continues to develop.
