Watford want Facundo Pellistri on loan for remainder of the season

Facundo Pellistri made his Manchester United debut last night in a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic and it has emerged that Watford are interested in signing the Uruguayan winger on loan for the rest of the season.

Even though he played for Uruguay at the recent World Cup, Pellistri made his first appearance for United on Wednesday night, despite joining the club from Penarol in October 2020.

The winger featured on 23 occasions last season while on loan at Alaves — failing to score a goal or register a single assist.

Pellistri was very good when he came off the bench against Charlton. He only played for a mere 7 minutes but had several attacking involvements, including an assist for Marcus Rashford.

According to the Telegraph, Watford’s interest in Pellistri pre-dates his brief involvement in the Carabao Cup, with head coach Slaven Bilic keen to sign the young winger to strengthen his depleted squad.

It is understood that Pellistri’s agent has flown to England to try and sort out his client’s immediate future before the January transfer window.

After hearing what Ten Hag had to say about Pellistri last night, the winger should be encouraged to ensure he comes back to United an even better player.

Ten Hag told reporters (via The Athletic): “I see a future in him (Pellistri). He’s doing really well and we have to see what is the best.

“You see he is progressing. Against Everton (behind closed doors friendly), I was happy with his performance, I was happy with his performance in the World Cup.

“His progress is really good and he’s come on and had an effect. I say well done, better, keep going.”
