Charlton captain identifies in-form Manchester United star they will be trying to stop

Charlton Athletic captain George Dobson says his team will be keeping a close eye to in-form Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford should he start in tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final.

It goes without saying that a team sat 12th in League One shouldn’t be a problem for United, but it would be foolish of us to underestimate any team at the quarter-final stage of the Carabao Cup.

One player Dobson remembers facing from his academy days at Charlton is Marcus Rashford. He was also in the away end at Old Trafford this season to watch his beloved West Ham lose 1-0. A header from Rashford was enough for United to take three points from David Moyes’ West Ham side.

“Yeah we were the same age growing up so under-16s and youth team matches, I remember playing against him and how sharp he was, the pace he had,” Dobson said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“Then obviously he broke through when he did and has gone on to become the player he is and he’s obviously a frightening talent and on top of his game at the minute. So if he’s playing he’s definitely going to be one we’re going to be focusing on trying to stop.”

There are no guarantees that Rashford will start tonight’s game against Charlton because Ten Hag could have one eye on the Manchester derby this weekend.

Dobson added that he would try to swap jerseys with Casemiro after the full-time whistle.

“They have that ruthless nature now. He’s really kicking United on, especially from the start of the season to now, you can see the improvements they’ve made and he’s doing a really good job.”
