World Cup winner Toni Kroos heaps praise on Manchester United centre-back ahead of final

Toni Kroos has heaped praise on his former Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman lifted three Champions Leagues, alongside many other trophies, alongside Kroos throughout his time in Spain. He then opted for a switch to the Premier League and has since been a crucial member of the Manchester United squad.

Varane is now preparing for his second consecutive World Cup final with Les Bleus, as they attempt to lift back-to-back trophies as world champions for the first time since Brazil in 1962. France also picked up the Nations League in 2021.

At club level, the 29-year-old has won four Champions Leagues, three La Ligas, four Club World Cups, four Supercopa de Espana and three Super Cups.

France will face Argentina on Sunday, December 18 in the final, meaning he is likely to come up against fellow Red Lisandro Martinez.

Kroos’ praise for Varane

Kroos, who won the lucrative trophy with Germany in 2014, spoke highly of United’s centre-back ahead of this weekend’s clash. He told Real Total: “He’s incredibly fast. Really one of the fastest teammates, I would even say. There were a few quick ones [at Real Madrid]. He’s really incredible. I never really saw anyone run away from him in our time here.

“He was a solid pillar for us alongside [Sergio] Ramos for many years. He did an outstanding job and is really the complete package. He doesn’t do miracles with the ball but is a highly awkward defender to play against. You can’t beat him in the air and, as I said, he’s incredibly fast so you can’t run away from him either. He’s a good man.”
