Josko Gvardiol to stay at RB Leipzig amid Manchester United links

Josko Gvardiol is expected to stay with RB Leipzig beyond the summer of 2023.

That is according to Sky in Germany as they dismiss claims that the Croatia defender could be en route to Manchester United or Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old is renowned for being able to play at centre-back and left-back, but Leipzig are keen to keep hold of the young defender for another year – presumably to maximise profits.

This will come as a blow to clubs like Bayern Munich and United, who have been linked with the Croatian following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

While I think United need another centre-back in the summer, Erik ten Hag no longer needs to worry about the left-back department. Luke Shaw has been brilliant this season and Tyrell Malacia is an excellent back-up option for now.

There is a demand for a new right-back, though. I’m still unsure if it needs to be a player that will start ahead of Diogo Dalot or if it’s simply to provide competition. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is incapable of doing it at this level.

That’s why I think we should be looking on the opposite flank to make sure we’re just as strong on the right as we are on the left.
