Manchester United make huge €90m offer for World Cup star

Manchester United were busy in the summer transfer market and with the World Cup almost over, the focus is already beginning to shift toward the January transfer window.

Speaking after United fell to back-to-back defeats in their mid-season training camp in Spain, manager Erik ten Hag confirmed that he was keen on signing a striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Signing a striker may be a priority but according to new reports, strengthening the defence is also on the agenda. United have made big-money moves for centre-backs in the last two summer windows, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez both joining the club.

The pair, who have forged an unbreakable bond at the heart of United’s defence, could now be joined by another star from the European stage.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say that World Cup star Josko Gvardiol is the subject of a huge bid from United and other European giants.

As per the report, Chelsea, Manchester City and United are the Premier League clubs interested in the Croatia international, with all clubs submitting offers.

It’s claimed that City have offered a whopping €100m for Gvardiol plus a percentage of any potential resale, with Chelsea and United offering €95m and €90m respectively.

Additionally, it’s said that Bayern Munich are going on the offensive to sign Gvardiol. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also named as interested parties.

SN’s verdict…
It’s highly unlikely that United would sanction a big-money move like this, especially when the Glazer family are currently exploring options to sell the club.

Furthermore, signing a striker should be the club’s number one priority. As things stand, Anthony Martial is the only senior out-and-out striker and his fitness history is an issue.

Gvardiol is a promising talent and will, undeniably, dominate the world stage for years to come but he’s unlikely to join United anytime soon at that figure.

  1. A striker remains our number one priority for now. We need to be serious about bringing Gakpo to Old Trafford. He is versatile player, he can play as an attacker and from the wings as well.
