Atletico Madrid to sound out Manchester United over €100m-rated Joao Felix

Atletico Madrid are trying to cash in on Joao Felix in January and Manchester United are being linked with a move for the Portuguese forward.

According to The Times, Joao Felix’s relationship with manager Diego Simeone is on the brink of collapse. Atletico Madrid are ready to cut their losses on a player they signed from Benfica for a whopping €127 million.

The report adds that Atletico Madrid will sound out a number of clubs about a potential transfer after telling United in the summer that he was not for sale.

It is suggested that United met with Jorge Mendes to discuss a move for the 23-year-old, but we also know that the club’s relationship with his agent has worsened in recent months so it would be interesting to hear more about those talks…

Mendes also represents Cristiano Ronaldo, a fellow Portugal international, who had his Manchester United contract terminated recently after a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan. This came after Mendes made signals in the summer that his client wanted to leave United.

Atletico Madrid know they cannot recoup the money they spent for Felix back in 2019 but I still think the €100 million they are demanding is too much. He has struggled to fulfil his potential in Spain but we must note how attacking players are expected to prioritise defensive duties under Simeone.

Felix hasn’t played as much football as he would’ve wanted this season, starting only five matches for Atleti this season. He still managed to score in Portugal’s World Cup opener against Ghana.

I’ll trust Erik ten Haq’s judgement on the matter.
