Investors seek advice from Ed Woodward on Manchester United sale

Former Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been reportedly approached by groups seeking to buy the club.

According to the Daily Mail, Woodward has been asked to act as a consultant for their potential purchase – which is similar to how he began his working relationship with the Glazer family.

Although the report doesn’t specifically state who has been in contact with Woodward, we have seen the club linked to a number of billionaires in the media over the past 24 hours. Sir Jim Ratcliffe was first to be linked with a takeover, while claims about Apple now look premature.

Woodward stood down from the United board in February and is no longer contacted to the club. That said, he remains respected in football circles and could have a big hand to play in any potential sale.

This could quickly backfire for whoever thinks it is a good idea to use Woodward as sounding bound to the Glazers.

It’s no secret that Woodward doesn’t hold a good relationship with the fans due to his dire influence on the club during his time as executive vice-chairman, even if the Glazers felt he did a remarkable job in their quest to strip annual dividends out of the club.

The next owners will be paying for a lot of the damage caused by Woodward.
