Facundo Pellistri starts against South Korea to make World Cup debut

Uruguay have some of world football’s biggest names, but that has not stopped Facundo Pellistri earning a starting place in the team for their World Cup opener against a Son Heung-min inspired South Korea.

The opening game in Group H raises a few questions. The first is, who will be joining Portugal in the knockouts, assuming that Cristiano Ronaldo can lead his country into the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Uruguay won’t have it easy against South Korea – or Ghana for that matter – but I am intrigued to see how Pellistri does at the World Cup.

His agent spoke about a potential exit from Manchester United should he do well in Qatar, although I am hoping Erik ten Hag intervenes and pushes for a loan move in January instead.

However, Pellistri is in the starting eleven to make his World Cup debut against South Korea. He is joined in the line-up by big names like Diego Godin, Federico Valverde and Luis Suarez.

We would like to wish Pellistri and his teammates the best of luck this afternoon.
