Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t take well to constructive criticism and has hit back at his former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney.
Speaking to talkSPORT during the week, Rooney stressed that Ronaldo’s actions this season were unacceptable. He also slammed Roy Keane for hypocritically defending the Portuguese star.
United’s all-time top scorer said: “I just think the things he has done from the start of the season, it is not acceptable for Manchester United. I’ve seen Roy Keane defending him. Roy wouldn’t accept that. Roy wouldn’t accept that at all.
“It is a distraction which Manchester United don’t need at the minute, trying to rebuild.
“For Cristiano, just get your head down and work and be ready to play when the manager needs you. If he does that, he will be an asset. If he doesn’t, it will become an unwanted distraction.”
Rooney called out the 37-year-old for his behaviour this season, which has been appalling, but Ronaldo has not struck back with an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan.
In the same interview, Ronaldo explained why he feels betrayed at United – and it sounds like it’s only a matter of time before he leaves the club.
Even though they won three Premier League titles together as well as the Champions League in 2008, there is no love lost between Ronaldo and Rooney.
When asked about the criticism from Rooney, Ronaldo told Morgan, as per the Express: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level.”
Ronaldo childishly added: “I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”
The headlines tonight should be about Alejandro Garnacho rather than Ronaldo. That’s why I find the timing of tonight’s teaser very convenient.
It’s a bad move for Ronaldo because I get the feeling most United fans are completely fed up with him.

The time has come for a parting of the ways. Regardless of what has gone on behind closed doors at OT/Carrington there is no way back now for Cristiano.
