Tyrell Malacia makes Netherlands squad for World Cup

Manchester United full-back Tyrell Malacia has received a call-up to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup.

Louis van Gaal was always expected to bring Malacia to Qatar this winter, even though the young left-back has had to fight for a place in Manchester United’s team this season. The young full-back will be delighted to have made the manager’s 26-man squad and we are excited to see him in action.

Here is the announcement video from the Netherlands via Twitter:

Netherlands squad going to the World Cup

Goalkeepers: Justin Bijlow, Remko Pasveer, Andries Noppet

Defenders: Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake, Daley Blind, Jurrien Timber, Denzel Dumfries, Stefan de Vrij, Mathjis de Ligt, Tyrell Malacia, Jeremie Frimpong

Midfielders: Frenkie de Jong, Steven Berghuis, Davy Klaassen, Teun Koopmeuiners, Cody Gakpo, Marten de Roon, Kenneth Taylor, Xavi Simons

Forwards: Memphis Depay, Steven Bergwijn, Vincent Janssen, Luuk de Jong, Noa Lang, Wout Weghorst

Ask any United fan and they will tell you they’ve been encouraged by the 23-year-old’s performance, so I’d argue that he deserves his place in the Netherlands squad.

Malacia completed a transfer from Feyenoord last summer and made an impressive start to the season. He has only started one Premier League game since September as Luke Shaw stepped up his game but it’s healthy to have competition like this in the squad.

Hopefully our players return from the World Cup without any niggles or injuries.
