Group of 30 former footballers plan to sue FA for negligence

A group of 30 former footballers are suing the FA for negligence on the grounds they have failed to protect players from brain injuries.

The group includes recently retired professionals in their 30s with early-onset dementia and older men in their 60s and 70s, who are suffering from more debilitating conditions.

There has been help from a number of families of players who died after suffering from brain injuries, including the family of former Manchester United star Nobby Stiles.

Stiles suffered from dementia for many years before passing away in 2020. His told told Sportsmail: “Since Dad died I have been part of a campaign to address the ongoing scandal of dementia in football in all its various aspects.

“These proposed legal proceedings are part of this overall campaign for justice for the victims, like Dad, and for fundamental change in an industry that continues to cause the deal and illness of thousands of players every year.”

The case is destined for the courts.
