Reports suggest Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is attracting interest from Manchester United, with the Red Devils possibly entering the market in search of a replacement for David de Gea.
According to Media Foot, Manchester United have identified the 28-year-old as a candidate to replace De Gea as United’s long-term option between the posts.
However, Vlachodimos is not the only keeper United should be looking at in Portugal now. FC Porto’s Diogo Costa would be a brilliant option and he is younger than Benfica’s first choice option.
It is believed that United will be in the market for a new goalkeeper to replace De Gea, who is out of contract in 2023. The Spaniard doesn’t fit the profile of Erik ten Hag’s ideal goalkeeper, who needs to be able to play out from the back along with willingness to come off his line to assist the defence when it comes to dealing with quick attacks.
That doesn’t change the fact he was one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he is still a very good shot stopper. It will be interesting to see what happens with his contract.
Vlachodimos has made 185 appearances for Benfica since joining the Portuguese giants from Panathinaikos in 2018. He has nine clean sheets so far this season.
