Manchester United reportedly had scouts watching FC Porto’s 4-1 win over Braga on Friday to keep an eye on Diogo Costa and David Carmo.
According to A Bola, as cited by Sport Witness, Costa and Carmo have attracted long-term admiration from Manchester United and the club’s interest has intensified since Erik ten Hag’s appointment.
Costa is a 23-year-old keeper, who has been capped seven times for Portugal, and I think it would make sense for United to try to replace De Gea with an exciting prospect that could become the best in the world one day.
Meanwhile, Carmo is a central defender which means Ten Hag may look to add depth to that department in the upcoming transfer windows, especially when we can see one or two centre-backs leaving United in the next year.
The news comes at a time everyone seems to be talking about David de Gea’s future at Manchester United. Although he has retained his place in the starting line-up, it is understood that Ten Hag is keen on signing a long-term replacement next summer.
De Gea, 31, is out of contract at United next summer and there might still be a chance for Dean Henderson to claim the first-choice role – but first he needs to prove himself at Nottingham Forest.
United signed Martin Dubravka on loan in the summer after being linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp, but De Gea has kept hold of the manager’s faith for now.
The Spaniard will be hoping for another clean sheet today against Manchester City.
