Dean Henderson makes World Cup admission

Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson admits he is behind in the pecking order as he contests for a place in the England squad for the Qatar World Cup.

Henderson, 23, is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and was named in the latest England squad for the Nations League.

Everyone’s attention is on Gareth Southgate’s next squad, though, as that will be the one he brings to Qatar.

During a fan Q&A on Soccer AM, Henderson was asked whether he sees himself in England’s squad for the World Cup.

Henderson said: “I think I’m behind at the minute for sure, obviously last season not playing much and the other lads have done unbelievably well.

“I knew the best chance to do that [make the World Cup] was coming out [on loan] and playing football and being in Gareth Southgate’s eye and hopefully leaving a good impression.”

Henderson has played well this season despite Nottingham Forest’s struggles in the top flight. At least he is guaranteed to be kept busy between the sticks to prove himself.

Playing for England is different, but it doesn’t look like Jordan Pickford will be losing his place anytime soon. That said, it doesn’t sit well with me that the Everton goalkeeper is a potential target to replace David de Gea.

De Gea has his faults but not Pickford. No thanks!
