Facundo Pellistri advised to seek transfer from Manchester United

Facundo Pellistri has been advised to leave Manchester United.

The 20-year-old was unable to secure a loan move away from the club this summer, after spending two spells on loan at La Liga outfit Alaves, where he made 35 appearances without scoring a single goal.

However, that did not stop Pellistri becoming a regular in the Uruguay national team, and he looks set to be joining their squad for the World Cup later this year.

That shows the kid we signed from Penarol in 2020 has some pedigree, but maybe not enough to make it under Erik ten Hag at United.

Pellistri is currently stuck in the U23s but has been urged to seek a transfer away from United by former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet.

Poyet advises his fellow countryman to quit his current club because he has question marks over whether he can continue to start for Uruguay while playing little football for his club, despite doing so last term.

“Pellistri will struggle to get game time,” Poyet told Midnite, as per TeamTalk. “It would be good for him to go somewhere and play, because the World Cup is around the corner and he is very important for the Uruguay team because the coach [Diego Alonso] has lots of faith in his ability, he’s a proper winger.”

We should be reading this as encouraging news, especially when Pellistri showed some decent glimpses of play during the pre-season tour, but Antony’s arrival will only make it more difficult for him to get into the side now.

Poyet added: “He needs to find a place to play. Look at Luis Suarez who is playing at Nacional week in week out, training with the first team and getting game time three months before the World Cup. Pellistri should do something similar.”

Er, Luis Suarez is 35 and has spent the majority of his career in Europe.

It’s a weak comparison.
