Man Utd consider new bid as Antony pushes for transfer

Manchester United are set for a crazy end to the transfer window as Erik ten Hag eyes a late flurry to strengthen his squad following a disastrous start to the Premier League campaign.

The Dutchman is winless after two games and he has already moved quickly to secure the signing of Casemiro, who will finalise his move to United after completing a medical over the weekend.

Antony, the Ajax winger, is another player earmarked by Ten Hag as an option this summer and United are aiming to sign him before next week’s transfer deadline.

According to The Athletic, United are now considering a fresh bid for the 22-year-old after having an initial proposal worth €80m rebuffed by the Amsterdam club.

As per the report, Antony was left out of Ajax’s squad against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday due to the speculation surrounding his future but the player and his agents are said to be pushing for a move to United.

Ajax are discussing potential fees for Antony internally but they are expected to hold out for a whopping €100m, which would be their record sale if a deal is completed.

SN’s verdict…
It looks like Ten Hag is determined to seal a reunion with Antony this summer and you can understand why. In the past, a left-footed right-sided winger and vice versa on the other flank has been integral to his plans. He doesn’t have that at United.

It can be argued that United may have been able to broker a more favourable deal if signing Antony was made a priority earlier this summer but in true chaotic United fashion, this may be their final hope.

Signing Antony would complete a remarkable raid of Ajax from United after also prising away Ten Hag and Lisandro Martinez.
