Fabrizio Romano claims Ten Hag admires Cody Gakpo as United eye PSV winger

PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils were unsuccessful in their attempts to sign another Eredivisie winger when Ajax decided to price the Brazil international Antony out of a dream transfer.

However, Gakpo may play on the opposite flank, but he’s a player Erik ten Hag knows well and shares an agency with, although the club’s interest is not quite advanced just yet.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update in his CaughtOffside newsletter, stating there hasn’t been an official offer for the Netherlands international.

He still suggests that Gakpo is attracted to the idea of joining the Premier League.

Ten Hag would be wise to strengthen his attacking options because – as things stand – he cannot rely too much on Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho. As a trio they all need to rediscover their confidence which takes time.

Romano believes Gakpo could be an alternative to Antony.

“Cody Gakpo is a player on the Manchester United list, but PSV Eindhoven have not yet received an official offer. They’re expecting that step to understand if Man United will want to get serious for Gakpo,” Romano explained.

“Certainly the player is attracted to the Premier League and has the same agency as Erik ten Hag. The United manager knows him from his time in the Eredivisie and has been an admirer of the player for a long time.

“He can be defined similar to Antony as a role but he plays the game in a very different way, with a more European style and less South American.”
