Jaap Stam says linked star wants to join Man United

Even though Manchester United have already signed three senior players during the summer’s transfer window, Erik ten Hag remains keen on signing Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie De Jong.

The Dutch midfielder has been relentlessly pursued by the Red Devils and even though it is the worst kept secret in football, the Netherlands international has yet to make the switch to Old Trafford.

According to former defender Jaap Stam, that could all be set to change though.

Speaking to ViaPlay prior to his old side’s Premier League opener against Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday, Stam said: “My feeling is that Frenkie de Jong will come here. At (Manchester United) they know for a long time that Frenkie de Jong wants to come otherwise they would never push this long to get it done. It’s just a money issue for now.”

Rumoured to have agreed a deal with their La Liga rivals for £72m (Fabrizio Romano), United will know that their biggest task is getting De Jong to give the green light before the end of the transfer window at the start of next month.
