Brighton eye Manchester United full-back as potential Marc Cucurella replacement

Brighton will move to sign Manchester United academy graduate Brandon Williams if Manchester City succeed in their attempts to prise away the talented Marc Cucurella this summer.

It has been suggested all summer that Pep Guardiola had his sights on signing Cucurella, as per Sky Sports, especially after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal.

However, City have yet to meet Brighton’s £50m asking price for the player and Graham Potter has already identified a replacement in Manchester United’s Brandon Williams.

According to Steve Bates of The Mirror, there has been contact between Brighton and United over a deal, but the former are awaiting developments with Cucurella before they step up their attempts to sign the 21-year-old versatile full-back.

Williams’ best chance of breaking into the United team right now would be at right-back, but he didn’t get to go on tour and impress the new manager this summer due to injury.

The arrival of 22-year-old Tyrell Malacia has dented Williams’ hopes of regular game time at left-back, where you also have Luke Shaw claiming a place.

Williams must decide if he wants to stay on the fringes of the squad or move elsewhere for regular football. He got that last season on loan at Norwich City.
