Jesse Lingard close to transfer decision as two teams continue negotiations

Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is reportedly on the verge of making a final transfer decision.

That’s according to leading transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has provided fans with an update on the England international’s current situation.

Lingard, 29, departed the Red Devils at the end of last season after failing to extend his contract. He spent over 20 years with the club after joining the youth academy when he was just a young boy.

However, despite his loyalty to the club, Lingard must now move on in search of a new challenge, and although he received offers from teams in the MLS, it looks like the 29-year-old will be staying in the Premier League.

Although wanted back at West Ham United by David Moyes following his successful short-term loan 18 months ago, newly promoted club Nottingham Forest have also entered the race.

“Negotiations with Nottingham Forest are underway, Jesse Lingard is tempted by this possibility. Some MLS clubs have also approached him but his priority is the Premier League,” Romano said on his CaughtOffside SubStack.

Jesse Lingard is in talks with West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

“The salary figures are still unclear but the proposal is on the table, while West Ham are still in negotiations for Lingard but do not want to offer excessive net salary; they would only sign him on their own terms. As for Tottenham, there’s no interest, despite some reports.

“I believe the final decision is now very close.”

It makes sense for the former United number 14 to stick around in England’s top flight. The finances and the competition are the best in the world and if Lingard has serious ambition to go to the Qatar World Cup later this year, then the Premier League will offer him the best chance of convincing Three Lions’ boss Gareth Southgate.

Either way – whatever club Lingard ends up choosing, we wish him all the best ahead of next season.
