(Video) Wayne Rooney tells reporters he’s ready for the challenge at DC United

Wayne Rooney embarks on a new managerial journey in Major League Soccer.

The former Manchester United striker and club’s all-time record goalscorer has decided to swiftly return to management after walking away from the Derby County job last month.

It became a disaster at Pride Park even though Rooney’s reputation as a manager grew in the Championship.

Still, Rooney couldn’t save them from relegation after being hit with several points deductions over the past 12 months due to administration issues. He left to focus on his football and DC United have made that possible by offering him the job.

Speaking to reports in the United States, Rooney revealed that he had offers from other clubs before accepting DC United’s proposal. He also said he is ready for the challenge that awaits him in Washington.

DC United have not made the play-offs since Rooney last played for the club, so as manager he will be trying to change that over the coming years.

It’s great for the American game to attract a manager like Rooney who has yet to reach his prime after impressing at Derby County, which was his first job as a manager.
