Ten Hag credited with intense sessions just four days into pre-season training

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag took training for the fourth day of pre-season at Carrington earlier today. Melissa Reddy looks inside his first week of training with his new team.

Over the coming weeks, the Dutchman will hope to see improvements and progression from his players, as they learn to cope with the intensity of his coaching.

It’s been clear from recent reports that Ten Hag is already leaving a good impression on his new group of players.

However, several of United’s international stars are set to return on a staggered basis from next week, so Ten Hag still needs to get to know everyone in his squad.

That will take time.

According to Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy, one senior player described Ten Hag’s training as “intense – not just on the body but the mind. He wants you to think, think, think.”

There are plenty of interesting nuggets in this article, including:

• How immersive Ten Hag is during sessions
• He leads every element of training
• His task to make players comfortable on the ball and making decision with surety
• De Gea happy with manager’s ‘clear ideas’

We can’t read too much into Ten Hag’s first week of training because we could have a totally different opinion on 2 months’ time.

Let’s hope the players get behind the manager next season and give us something to shout about.
