Manchester United hope Ajax lower asking price for Antony

Manchester United have yet to make any signings this summer and we are approaching a crucial period in the transfer window.

The bulk of United’s transfer shortlist contains players from Erik ten Hag’s former club Ajax.

That makes me wonder about how United prepared for Ten Hag’s arrival if we’re over-reliant on players he previously worked with. Only time will tell when it comes to his long-term vision for the team, and it remains to be seen if he will be satisfied with what Murtough delivers when the season starts. To jury is out on that!

Defensive duo Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez are both believed to be on the shortlist, as well as Brazil international Antony.

According to The Times (£), Antony will become United’s main target once the club concludes deals for Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen.

Paul Hirst writes: “He [Antony] will not come cheap, however. Ajax have quoted a fee of £68.9 million for the Brazil winger, although United hope they will lower their asking price.”

We’ve already heard Dutch journalists claim that Ajax do not need to sell players which suggests they will put premium prices on all of those who remain at the club.

The report also states that United are willing to sell several players, including Andreas Pereira and Antony Martial, to afford more signings.
