Man Utd to press ahead with other signings after completing Frenkie de Jong deal

Manchester United have endured a slow start to this summer’s transfer window, with Erik ten Hag’s maiden summer perhaps not going exactly how he would have liked it to go.

Six senior players have already left the club on free transfers and serious surgery is expected as Ten Hag aims to shape the squad to his liking.

As part of that makeover, Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong emerged as Ten Hag’s prime target this summer and it’s believed that negotiations between United and the Catalan club have been encouraging recently.

According to recent reports, an agreement is now close and United would ideally like to get the move over the line before the end of this month.

Similar suggestions were made earlier on Sunday, with The Times claiming that United are closing in on a deal to sign De Jong after getting ready to raise their bid to €80m, which is believed to have narrowed the gap in valuation between the two clubs.

Furthermore, as per the report, Ten Hag made it clear that United should focus on securing De Jong’s signature before moving on to other targets.

When the 25-year-old’s arrival has been sealed, it’s believed that ‘a series’ of other signings will follow the Dutchman through the door at Carrington – a huge boost to Ten Hag’s quest to turn United’s fortunes around.

SN’s verdict…
United’s start to the window might have been slow but with a resolution to the De Jong saga finally in sight, fans will be hoping that further fresh faces are brought in.

Ideally, United would like to sign another midfielder in addition to De Jong and reinforce their attacking options, with United already light in that area.

There are doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future and as things stand, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are the club’s only senior wide players.

A centre-back could also be on the agenda but that will depend on whether there are significant sales, with the club already homing six players in the department. Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones could all leave.

  1. ManU. to press ahead? I’ve not known the management to press ahead with anything, and certainly not transfer business.

  2. I for once still won’t believe De jong sağa is done until his unvailed, and on a serious note, united is not being serious cos if we really need a rebuild then we should be willing to spend and why are we persisting on a player who doesn’t want to come to the club, that the same problem we faced with Dimaria.on the other hand,we have lots of young players with potential atleast let’s give then a chance other than letting them go then later buy them for high value like it happened with Pogba.

    1. I agree.Tho I’m in favour of this transfer cos he’s something else,an exceptional talent but we have Garner too,who is an exceptional talent who is an academy product. We must nurture these lads to save colossal transfer fees. It’s the centre- back we need from Juventus,DeLigt he’s the star I’ve wanted since we played Ajax last.Phenomenal player.

  3. De Jon is a signing and make a great impact and infect on the team but utd to get more deals done to be able to match city Liverpool and Chelsea city has signed about four good players to already squad that finished top last season and Liverpool is left out utd need 7-8 good signing s to achieve that so utd should be very active and sensitive in the transfer if they want to make the top 4 because the I see things next season will more tough than last season

  4. Make a signing of a Defender like mathijs De ligt or Lisandro Martinez and we do need a striker and make sure u sign Antony

  5. Literally, Man Utd need more than 6 players…
Replacement for Pogba should be two, then each of the other outgoing players should be replaced..

Key area thou should be the defense. Maguire’s presence in the team is even worse than lack of incoming players!

Get De Jong over the line,
    Antony,
    Martinez
    Torres,
A right back, LB and a goal scoring no. 9.

  6. Man u need to be better next season than the past one but if they continue this way in the transfer summer i dnt thick they will escape religation zone

  7. Please sign a player’s what are we waiting for? we dnt want our team to be were we been ended last term please….

  8. I just hope Frenkie de jong deal is about to be completed because there is no time. We need a striker, a center back and also a defensive midfielder.

  9. Manchester United you need to be serious with signings, big no. of players have been released and to be replaced with out failure or else this season you won’t be title contenders any more.
