Manchester United inform defender he’s free to leave this summer

Erik ten Hag’s revolution at Manchester United is well underway, with six players already confirmed to be leaving the club upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of this month.

Further departures are expected and according to reports, outcast defender Brandon Williams has been informed that he is free to leave this summer.

That’s according to Manchester United insider Jonathan Shrager, who adds that the decision comes after failing to guarantee him first-team football.

As per the report, the club would ideally like the defender to stay at the club and fight for his place under Ten Hag. Williams has two years remaining on his contract at the club and it remains unclear whether Norwich would be keen on bringing him back to Carrow Road this summer.

Williams made 26 appearances for Norwich last season but is expected to be part of the first group in Ten Hag’s pre-season preparations, with non-internationals returning to the club on June 27.

SN’s verdict…
As things stand, Williams is behind all of United’s senior full-backs in the pecking order and it’s hard to imagine him reclaiming any of those positions.

His versatility could, however, work in his favour as it has been rumoured that the club is also open to letting Aaron Wan-Bissaka leave this summer.

United are well-stocked on both flanks, with at least two senior figures in each position, leaving Williams with little hope of breaking back into the side. Had his loan spell at Norwich gone better, it might have been a different story.
