Wales manager raves about De Jong’s potential Manchester United transfer

The Netherlands take on Wales in the UEFA Nations League tonight.

Those involved, including Manchester United transfer target Frenkie de Jong, will then head off on a well deserved summer break.

Louis van Gaal’s side face Wales for the second time in the space of a week, after a 2-1 win against them in a game that saw De Jong play a starring role from the bench.

Wales caretaker manager Robert Page was asked about De Jong at his pre-match press conference and he made his views clear on United signing the Barcelona ace.

Page gave De Jong a glowing reference, as quoted by Voetball International: “A great player. We experienced that firsthand.

“I don’t know where he’s going to play, but whatever he’s doing; he will shine there. De Jong is a great player, let’s hope for the fans that he can be seen in the Premier League every week next season.”

In the meantime, Erik ten Hag will hope United can complete a deal for the Netherlands midfielder. The club should be aiming to have the majority of their signings made before the team gets together for pre-season training.

Otherwise, Ten Hag is starts on the back-foot with players bound to struggle with his preferred style of football, especially without the influence of signings better suited to a possession based game.

Let’s hope United can get this deal over the line soon.

P.S. If you are watching the game later, keep an eye on United target Jurrien Timber.
