Manchester United target Vitinha set for Premier League move

Manchester United seem focused on signing Frenkie de Jong but ask any fan and they will tell you we need more than one addition to fix our persistent problems in midfield.

Erik ten Hag is approaching his first season as manager and has made it clear to the hierarchy that he wants to bring Barcelona midfielder De Jong to Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international is one of the best midfielders in the world, but life at Camp Nou has not gone as planned and the La Liga giants need to sell players this summer in order to make new signings.

After losing four senior midfielders — Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata — due to expiring contracts, Ten Hag may accept that he needs a smaller squad next season, but at the same time he needs to improve United’s midfield which got overrun by lesser opponents last season.

De Jong aside, the latest midfielder tipped to move to Old Trafford is FC Porto star Vitinha, who was on loan at Wolves two years ago.

Portuguese newspaper Record claim a Premier League club is set to pay his release clause, and suggest United are the most interested party.

The 22-year-old, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, helped Porto win the league in 2021/22 — scoring two goals and registering three assists.

Wolves decided not to take up an option to buy him for £18m in 2021, as per The Athletic.

Vitinha’s release clause is reportedly worth €40m (£34m).

Let us know in the comments section if you think Vitinha is the right player to partner De Jong in United’s midfield. It may be a suggestion that Ten Hag wants to make us a heavily possession based side moving forward.
