Brandon Williams sends best wishes to James Garner ahead of play-off final

Brandon Williams has confirmed he won’t be at Wembley to support his Manchester United team-mate in today’s play-off final, as loanee James Garner is set to feature for Nottingham Forest against Huddersfield Town.

The pair became close friends since coming through the academy and both will be hoping to get a chance to play under Erik ten Hag next season.

However, the Manchester Evening News claims United are willing to listen to offers for Williams, who spent this season on loan at Norwich City.

Williams got lots of game time under Dean Smith, so United will see it as a positive loan spell, but the academy graduate was playing in a terrible side that dropped to the Championship this season.

Garner, on the other hand, has played a crucial role in Forest making the play-off final. His performances in central midfield have led to many suggesting he will be knocking on the door of the first team when he returns this summer.

Should Forest beat Huddersfield later this evening, I’m sure there will be more talk of Garner going back on loan next season, but at 21-years-old his chance should be now.

On Saturday morning, Williams posted a message to Instagram stories, wishing his mate the best ahead of such a big match.

He wrote: “Sunday, my bro plays the biggest game of his life.

“Gutted couldn’t make it but he’s going to make the impossible possible, simple. Love you brother all the best.”
