James Garner could be set for another loan spell next season

Manchester United could decide to send James Garner back out on loan to Nottingham Forest if they achieve promotion to the Premier League. This would be like when United allowed Dean Henderson to return to Sheffield United.

That is according to the Manchester Evening News, with the Red Devils expected to have a conversation with Forest over the deal if they win their play-off final against Huddersfield Town.

The aim for Garner next season will be to get regular football in the Premier League. He has done that already in the Championship as one of Forest’s key players over the past two seasons, so it’s time for next big challenge in his career.

Of course, if Forest fall short in their Wembley final, Garner could return to United and make a name for himself under Erik ten Hag. The midfield ace will have a chance to impress the new manager when the team jets off on pre-season tour.

It wasn’t a long time ago that Henderson was the best goalkeeper in the Championship. To give him more experience after securing promotion with the Blades in 2018/19, United let him return to the club the following season. He went on to have another outstanding campaign in his first year in the Premier League – keeping 13 clean sheets in 36 league games as Sheffield United came ninth.

Garner has a bright future in the game no matter what happens this summer.
