Nemanja Matic keeping his options open ahead of Manchester United exit

Nemanja Matic insists he is keeping his options open as he nears the end of his spell at Manchester United.

The 33-year-old recently announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, exercising his right to end his United career rather than having an extension triggered in his deal.

Matic, who won the Premier League during his time at Chelsea, has already been linked with a number of different clubs in the summer transfer window.

It could be time for the Serb to open a fresh chapter in one of Europe’s other top leagues, but he insists his focus is on finishing the season with United first.

“The options are still open,” he told K1 Televizija (as cited by the Manchester Evening News). “But what is certain is that this is my last season at United and I want to finish it in the best possible way.

“We have another game on May 22, and after that I will make a decision where I will continue my career.”

Fans have accepted over the past year or so that Matic no longer has the legs to run our midfield every week. That said, we signed him knowing he was past his best, but that doesn’t change the fact he’s been a good servant when called upon.

United need to sign a younger alternative to Matic in the summer.
