Brandon Williams’ representatives issue statement on abuse from Norwich City fans

Contrary to reports this morning, Brandon Williams is not under investigation by Norwich City over his social media activity at the weekend.

Williams, 21, is on a season-long loan at Norwich, who have been relegated back to the Championship for a second time in the last three seasons.

It has been a positive loan spell when you consider one of our younger players has gone out and experienced regular football in the top-flight.

Williams had some experience of that already from playing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but he had to go out on loan to guarantee himself more game time. It is hoped that he will be able to challenge Luke Shaw for a place at left-back next season, though that will be a decision for Erik ten Hag to make.

The United academy graduate started in Norwich’s 4-0 home defeat to West Ham, which summed up their terrible season. Williams’ representatives state he was abused after the game before being followed home.

They’ve also rubbished claims that Williams is under investigation over an Instagram post.

In a statement, Williams’ representatives said (via Manchester Evening News): “Following the game against West Ham, Brandon was subject to taunting and abuse whilst driving away from the stadium.

“Immediately thereafter Brandon was followed as he travelled home. Those following him only desisted once they realized Brandon had noticed them following him.

“There was no club investigation into Brandon.

“This conduct by a small number of fans is unacceptable. The vast majority of fans have been overwhelmingly supportive during Brandon’s loan time at Norwich.

“Brandon is grateful to Norwich City for their support and to all the true fans of Norwich who have sent him messages of support at this time.”

Williams has made 29 appearances for Norwich this season.
