Nemanja Matic has announced that he will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season.
The midfielder, 33, informed the board and everyone connected to the first-team of his decision before taking to social media where he made the big announcement.
Matic explains the honour of playing for a club like United and sends a thank you to the fans for their support down the years.
Unfortunately, Matic was unable to win the Premier League during his time at Old Trafford, like he did at Chelsea. He was a very good player, but it was always clear that his best years had gone by the time Jose Mourinho brought him to United.
In a short statement made on Instagram, Matic wrote:
“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision.
“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.
“I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”

Matic has never been one to lack effort on the pitch and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him play in a chunk of our remaining seven matches.
A degree of credit must go to Manchester United insider Jonathan Shrager, who was first to break this news about Matic last night.
Hopefully Matic can win his last 7 games in a United shirt…
