Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has responded to surprise rumours linking him as a possible candidate for the Manchester United job, which becomes available at the end of the season when his German colleague Ralf Rangnick moves upstairs into a consultancy role.
We have seen an array of names linked with the job – from Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag to Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui – but links to Hasenhuttl are something new.
I don’t think they should be laughed at either. The Austrian coach has worked wonders at Southampton, and they are one of the best pressing teams in the Premier League and recently held United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Gary Neville pointed out quotes made by Hasenhuttl after the match that shined the United players in a very negative light and suggested that they had embarrassed themselves.
When asked by a reporter about links to United (the original source cannot be found, so maybe she plucked it from thin air?), Hasenhuttl said he only wants to focus on the work he’s doing at Southampton right now.
🗣 "This is not in my mind."

Hasenhuttl looked surprised by the question – and initially ignored it before the reporter asked a second time.
He won’t be the first choice for most United fans, but there is no doubt that Hasenhuttl is quickly gaining credit from his work at St. Mary’s.
Let us know in the comments if you think Hasenhuttl would be a good option for United in the summer. It certainly seems like a wildcard choice.
