Manchester United consider Luis Enrique on managerial shortlist

Luis Enrique is one of the leading candidates for the Manchester United job.

The Reds plan to announce a new manager at the end of the season, but first they will hope interim boss Ralf Rangnick can get the side into the top four to secure Champions League football for the next man in charge.

According to ESPN, the latest name to be added to the list of candidates is Luis Enrique, based on the experience of delivering success during his time at Barcelona.

But we all know that Enrique’s success at the Nou Camp came under different circumstances and it would take an almighty feat to replicate those successes with United in England.

He has a reputation as a coach who plays attractive, attacking football, but also once who imposes discipline.

However, at Barcelona he had the famous front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez — all playing together in their prime — while Xavi and Andres Iniesta were starting to push on. Together they won a memorable treble in 2014/15, which you won’t see Barcelona doing again for some time.

The problem with Enrique is it’s a World Cup year and he’s currently in charge of Spain, which would also make his appointment interesting because he doesn’t start David de Gea for the national team.

Other reports suggest that the United players want Mauricio Pochettino, while Ajax coach Erik ten Hag is also listed as a potential candidate to replace Rangnick this summer.
