James Garner compared to Manchester United legend David Beckham

There is plenty of reason to be excited about James Garner coming back to Manchester United next season.

United’s midfield may need an overhaul (definitely one addition) and fans love it when the manager puts his faith in younger players who have graduated from the academy.

Garner has done that, gone on loan to Nottingham Forest for a second time and is receiving plaudits from all corners. Last night, the central midfielder opened the scoring for Steve Cooper’s side as they beat promotion-chasing Blackburn Rovers.

His performances in the FA Cup against Arsenal and Leicester City have also led to him earning comparisons with United legend David Beckham. We know it will take something special from Garner, on a consist basis, to become a great United player but if he can replicate half of what Becks did we’ll be very happy.

Anything more would be a huge bonus.

After Martin Keown made his opinions known about Garner, suggesting United should be thinking about taking him back early, former Man City player Trevor Sinclair told talkSPORT: “James Garner’s deliveries remind me of David Beckham’s.

“He’s got that dip and that whip and it causes so many problems.

“The pace on the ball, he’s putting it on a sixpence every time.

“The advantage is with the attackers because they know where he’s aiming depending on what signal he puts up.

“It’s an absolutely phenomenal cross that he’s got in the locker.”

If we’re getting a reincarnation of Beckham added to our midfield in the summer, the next manager will have a cracking young player to develop in the United first-team.

Garner will be aiming to get regular first-team minutes at Old Trafford next season if he keeps playing at this rate.
