Match report: Bridgwater United 0-2 Manchester United Women

On Sunday, Manchester United Women’s Team advanced to the next round of the Vitality FA Cup after dispatching Bridgwater United 2-0 thanks goals by Hayley Ladd in the first half and Ella Toone near the end of the game.

Sadly, the game wasn’t televised, so we cannot provide an in-depth analysis of the events of the match, but United had the vast majority of shots and ball possession while Bridgwater never really poised much of a threat according to stats.

Manager Marc Skinner fielded a very strong starting eleven, although he did rotate in the attack, with players such as Martha Thomas, Ivana Fuso and Carrie Jones given the opportunity to start in this competition.

Of course, the biggest highlight of the game was the debut of Karna Solskjær, daughter of United legend and former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, around the 85th minute, entering for Martha Thomas. It was a very touching moment, with Karna’s parents in the stands and United supporters singing her the song they used to sing for her father.

It was the first time at the club that a father and his daughter (or son) played for the senior team.

United will face Manchester City in the next round on February 27th, but Marc Skinner’s team before has to face Chelsea in the semifinals of the Continental Cup and the likes of Arsenal and City in the league, so they are entering the main part of the season.
